Eddie Daniels is one of the most highly successful woodwind artists in the jazz and classical concert world and has won numerous Grammy awards and nominations. His sound is full and lush, and technique smooth and effortless. In Eddie’s hands the music of Mozart can be as engaging as that of Charlie Parker and a concert featuring both can be a uniquely rewarding experience for the audience. During the first half of the March 12 concert, Eddie will perform Frank Proto's "Paganini in Metropolis" with the San Jose Metropolitan Band. "Paganini" draws its inspirations from the flamboyant showpieces composed for the violin by Niccolo Paganini and was written specifically for Mr. Daniels, who premiered the composition with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble in 2002. For the second half of the concert, Eddie will be joined by three outstanding Bay Area musicians (piano, string bass, drums) to showcase his unparalleled jazz talents. Eddie’s overriding ambition is to reach as many people as possible with his music, to enlarge the audience for both jazz and classical music, and at the same time to tear down the walls separating them. One is reminded of Benny Goodman’s straddling of the jazz and classical worlds. Los Angeles Times: “Daniels has become the total master of one of the most challenging musical instruments...a convincing claim for the Goodman clarinet mantle.”
